You know those stories that make you roll your eyes so far back in your head you think they might get stuck there?
This hot mess from POLITICO is one of those stories:
From POLITICO (sorry!):
Maybe youve never heard of Hillsdale. Or maybe you hadnt heard about the school before it precipitated a floor fight in the Senate during tax bill negotiations last fall. But the tiny Christian college with a graduate school in statesmanship, a strong conservative bent and roots in an anti-slavery Baptist church, has long been a treasured institution in right-of-center circlesknown for its required classical liberal arts curriculum, its commitment to a principled conservatism, and its outreach in Washington, D.C.
Whats happened to Hillsdale lately reflects the compromises conservative institutions across the country have made following Donald Trumps 2016 victory: Theyve accommodated themselves to the president.
I remember when I arrived and had been there just a few days. I was walking to lunch, and I thought to myself, "There's nobody here to argue with." (I'm the type who enjoys a good debate.) Well, there was. We had libertarians, Russell Kirk traditionalists (Dr. Kirk used to teach there one semester per year), and every shade in between.
They even found a couple of liberal kids. Most kept their heads down, but one guy became my sparring partner in the Collegian. In addition to being a one-time Reporter of the Year (I got $10), I had a column on the right side of the Op-Ed page and the other guy would write about the same issue on the left side of the page. (My column was way more popular.)
There is a mostly conservative faculty and student body, and it encompasses pretty much every shade of conservative/libertarian opinion.
BTW, Kat Timpf of Fox (you see her on The Greg Gutfeld Show) is a Hillsdale girl -- MANY years after me, although we had the same major.
Some lovely images. I fell in love with teh place the day I first visited.

If you get on the College’s mailing list, they’ll notify you of the livestreams of the Center for Constructive Alternatives. CCA is usually excellent.
You seemed to want it to be true...??
Found it of interest...you kept posting..to yourself..basically.
Funny. Did you read the whole thread?
I was reminiscing about things that were in the local news when my family lived near Hillsdale. I had forgotten the story and was hoping someone would know more. I ended up reading more elsewhere, and another poster remembered the time as well.
I think the story was tragic for that family. Hillsdale handled it well from what I have read in the last few days. Sometimes folks are crazy and do crazy things.
That’s something good I learned today:
