You know those stories that make you roll your eyes so far back in your head you think they might get stuck there?
This hot mess from POLITICO is one of those stories:
From POLITICO (sorry!):
Maybe youve never heard of Hillsdale. Or maybe you hadnt heard about the school before it precipitated a floor fight in the Senate during tax bill negotiations last fall. But the tiny Christian college with a graduate school in statesmanship, a strong conservative bent and roots in an anti-slavery Baptist church, has long been a treasured institution in right-of-center circlesknown for its required classical liberal arts curriculum, its commitment to a principled conservatism, and its outreach in Washington, D.C.
Whats happened to Hillsdale lately reflects the compromises conservative institutions across the country have made following Donald Trumps 2016 victory: Theyve accommodated themselves to the president.
Hillsdale is not a Christian college, but it teaches the values that made us great. It’s “Education for Leadership.”
Or ANY government funding. Government money brings government control.
Thanks for that feedback. I didn’t know of a connection between Bob Jones and Free Masonry. I also thought Biola was a Bible College but now see they have many majors to choose from. Very useful info.
America could use 100 Hillsdales, or 1000.
(I’ve sometimes thought about Hillsdale, NY and Hillsdale, NJ.)
The Department of Education tried to come and impose their rules on Hillsdale. Dr. Roche said (essentially), “Get off my campus.” Then we sued them and won.
Over the years, there has been a fair amount of cross-pollenization between Hillsdale and Grove City.
George Roche and his daughter in law Lissa. It was not long after I graduated.
Dr. Roche retired, and Dr. Arnn was brought in. Dr. Arnn has done a magnificent job building on a foundation that Dr. Roche laid.
As an old Army guy, I can say those are two of our finest regiments.
It’s not cheap.
The college was founded in 1844 by Free Will Baptists, but it has long since ceased to have any formal religious affiliation.
Are you a Hillsdale grad yourself? Or current faculty or staff?
I don’t know about Stephen Jones, but Bobs I-III were involved in Freemasonry. And III is still Chancellor. Looks like with Stephen gone, Bob III may be the last of the Joneses there.
That answers my question. Thx.
I’m a Hillsdale graduate.
It’s not cheap. It’s worth the price. Hillsdale is wonderful. I am EXTREMELY proud of the alma mater.
You can find the numbers for teh just-ended academic year here:
https://www.hillsdale.edu/admissions-aid/financial-aid/tuition-and-costs/
There are various forms of financial aid available.

I hope that helps.
I recommend Hillsdale. (But then, I’m a bit biased on teh subject.)
$35,000/year. They have endowments and scholarships, though, that substantially reduces that.
