Just want to add a comment about this statement by the author. Why? Despite the cheapening of the term hero in our time, McCain is not a war hero. Yes, he served in the Navy. Yes, he was shot down in Vietnam, captured and endured several years in captivity. But all of that does not make him a hero.
Also, McCain's service was another lifetime ago. The majority of his life has been spent as a senator, and not a very good one. Certainly not a heroic one, which belies anything said about him being a hero during Vietnam. So I don't see any reason why it is necessary to preface anything negative one has to say about McCain with some babble about him being a war hero.
Excellent point
Indeed. Saying McStain is a “war hero” is a despicable insult to millions of REAL war heros.
I am sure most of those who parrot this “war hero” trope are fools and dupes, but a lot of them do it on purpose to contribute to the leftist aim of snowflaking and dumbing down of the society.
Exactly. His military service and experience has absolutely nothing to do with his role as a Senator. In fact, he has held AMERICA hostage since being a Senator, kind of like his own POW camp.
I dont disagree with your point, but balance that with the veteran status of every victims of a crime reported here.
Ww2 vet victim of robbery.
Vietnam vet hit by car.
There is respect, and that is deserved. But veteran status is also used liberally to exacerbate the crime. Like hitting someone with a 2x4 is bad enough...but it is often described as vet hit with 2x4.
It has become part of our culture where what someone is makes what happens to them more dramatic.
