“I thought Trump was putting the military in the border.”
_________________________________________________________

Yeah, sure he is.

I love the guy, buy he’s been in office for 15 months now.

The president should have put tens of thousands of active duty Marines and Army units on the border in January 2017.

300 National Guard soldiers from one state, and 400 from another is far too little, far too late.

For what it’s worth department.........

But while President Trump could order active duty military personnel or federalized
National Guard troops to assist with border security operations, they would not be
allowed to carry out law enforcement duties like detaining migrants crossing the border illegally.

That’s because the Posse Comitatus Act prohibits the U.S. military from conducting
law enforcement duties in the United States. The only way that can be allowed is
by a special congressional authorization.

What I read - and I don’t know if this true, and I am not American - is that Trump threatened to put troops on the border, but this would be illegal - unconstitutional. Only the National Guard can be used.

This seems odd to me. What is your military for, if not to control and defend the borders? The US isn’t shy about sending its troops to all sorts of places. But apparently, they can’t be there, on active duty, on your own border.
