As I remember the story, a Japanese business woman, unusual in itself for that time, started a Shakey’s franchise in Japan in the 70s. Thinking it would take off, she noticed it wasn’t and did a marketing survey. To her suprise, the Japanese didn’t like so much meat on their pizzas. So she started experimenting with varieties and hit on the Canadian bacon and pineapple topping. Now you know..................... the rest of the story.

I ate at the Shakey’s in Yokosuka in the 70s. Wonder if it was the same one.

I was in Japan for 2 weeks in the late 90’s. I needed American food after the 1st week (They used a lot of bean paste. UGH) Hung out at Mickey D’s and Shakey’s.
