I saw on the news there was actually an Italian chopper there at the hospital waiting to take Alfie and the state said NO.

It was about maintaining control. NHS could not allow a patient to leave and be treated elsewhere; if they had allowed Alfie Evans out of the system, then others would demand to leave the system also, soon more would leave and eventually NHS would be hollowed out and collapse.
This was never about what was best for the child, but always what was best for the hospital and the NHS. The judges knew this very well, they are simply evil shills for power and prerogative.
