Balding_Eagle was making the point that had Cosby toed the party line and not taken a conservative stand on some social issues, he would have gotten away with his misdeeds, as have the Kennedys, Bill Clinton, and so on.
Given that the prosecutor who brought the case is white, I am unable to agree that there is a cause-and-effect relationship between Cosby having spoken out about family pathologies in the black community and his being prosecuted for personal behavior that many, many women accused him of, but few had any standing due to the statue of limitations having run out. No one has ever accused Cosby of being a bad or abandoning father; he clearly loved his children.
Most of his victims are in the age group of women who were old enough to be sexually harassed before there were any clear legal recourses, before sexual harassment, date rape or coercion were even codified as crimes; it was also an era when women with legitimate claims of rape were treated horribly by the "justice" system. Especially in the more free-form world of entertainment and media, accusers could be blackballed, as we saw in the Weinstein situation, where Weinstein used his wealth and influence to do to his victims what Hillary did to Bill's victims to silence thembad publicity, fake news, threats, "you'll never work in this town again," etc.
Changes of attitudes and laws only barely got started in the late 70s, when Cosby was already well into his 30s and a big wealthy star. Many women of that era who were taken advantage of and treated very badly by bosses, colleagues, pastors, therapists or co-workers simply tried to suppress it and move on, but paid a terrible price in lost wages and in PTSD-like reactions for years to come. When someone with standing at last took Cosby on in recent years, those older victims finally felt that at least they could now speak out.
