NHL referees build their reputations on their competence in enforcing the rules and making the right calls without interfering unduly with the flow of the game.

They tend not be a showy lot, unlike this narcissist who’s all about being the first openly gay ref anywhere.

Frankly I don’t know how he’s surviving in minor league hockey. I used to attend a lot of minor league games when I lived in Michigan. Kalamazoo had a goalie on their roster named Larry Dick. You can imagine the reception he got from 5000 drunken fans on the road when he skated out with “#1 DICK” on the back of his jersey. I imagine this guy has gotten similar greetings.

It’s sad to see that my favorite sport is the last team sport to be accepting of different orientations and to stop using gay slurs. But it seems like it’s caught up. Who cares who the guy sleeps with? Get the puck into the net or stop it from going in, it’s all good with me.
