“There were white slaves in America “
This is what you said.
There was not. And please don’t run that “indenture servatude = slavery” nonsense like some people have tried.
You do your research, I’ll do mine. In the 17th and 18th centuries the British Empire used white slavery in America. It’s nice that you said please but don’t tell me not to say something unless you can prove I’m wrong.
While it is true that indentured servants only served a limited term (3 to 7, or more, years), they were not free during that term. The first Africans brought to the mainland English colonies came as indentured servants. It was only after about a generation that the Negro's term was extended to life, and chattel slavery began (Virginia was the first colony in what is now the US to do so, I believe.) By that time there were already free Blacks with white indentured servants. Not many, to be sure, but some.
On the other hand, what of all the mulatto, quadroon, and octaroon, slaves? Mulatto's are just as ‘white’ as they are ‘black,’ have just as many European ancestors as African, and quadroons and so on have more Caucasian than Negro DNA. Does not that make them white slaves?
It isn’t nonsense. Indentured servants had no protections, and if you were sentenced to it in lieu of a prison term, it was most definitely slavery.
Subsistence living whether there is exchange of currency to purchase bare necessities or provision of same necessities is synonymous with slavery. The work is the same, the reward is the same. Don’t buy into the guilt trip nonsense used to manipulate the stupid by the crooks.
