And sometimes the surviving spouse surprises everyone and goes on to live longer than anyone expected. Sometimes it’s hard to tell.

And sometimes the surviving spouse surprises everyone and goes on to live longer than anyone expected I didn't expect my grandmother to last long after grandfather passed - they were married 72 years. But she learned to use the remote control, discovered cable TV and she just turned 99 and has decided to go for 100.

My grampa lived to 98, after losing his wife who died at 73. It was about 15 years he lived on.
Of course, they were that much younger when it happened, and having 7 children and their families to keep up with, I guess he felt he could still live on.
