My mother outlived my abusive alcoholic dad by nearly 17 years.
Sad to say, her quality of life improved immensely after he died.
It was bittersweet for me to watch.
Just thinking about not having my wife around after 40 years of marriage brings a tear to my eye....

My Grandmother died 3 months after my Grandfather passed.
What, did the wizard of Oz award him one recently?
He is a precursor to McCain, but with more authority.
Who first started bringing Muslims into high positions?
(Hint: it was the guy after Reagan)
I didn't expect my grandmother to last long after grandfather passed - they were married 72 years. But she learned to use the remote control, discovered cable TV and she just turned 99 and has decided to go for 100.
wrong
Yup all excellent points.
All “depends” on how dependent one was on the other.
I went to DU to capture some vile comments on this, there were none (one mild jab at Trump). I’m the last to give any credit over there, libs anywhere ... but it felt good to see that they are in essence saying the same things said here.
Political and philosophical differences aside, PRAYERS SENT.
Wrong ?
Really?
So you would rather have him suffer in a corruptible old body for who knows how long than enter into the presence of the Lord in his kingdom?
My grampa lived to 98, after losing his wife who died at 73. It was about 15 years he lived on.
Of course, they were that much younger when it happened, and having 7 children and their families to keep up with, I guess he felt he could still live on.
I’m not so sure that it is sad. I had a great grandfather who buried his wife, went home, sat down on the front porch, and died. My wife’s last two grandparents went within about nine months of each other this past year. I doubt he wanted to face a winter without her.
“So you would rather”
It doesnt matter what I would rather or what you would rather as that is just your opinion and attaching “Lord in his Kingdom” to your point of view gives it no more credibility than a rocks.
Very true. I didn’t think he was going to be around much longer after his wife passed. It happens a lot.
Yeah, it’s, after all the years, just too much to deal with.
Yes and even more so the longer the couple has been married. Prayers for their family.
Sepsis got JP II.
No real surprise if he dies soon. I read his book, much of it was about her.
