“As usual they don’t tell us what about these guns was illegal.”

At a glance, about half are “assault weapons” which perhaps were legally purchased upstate but illegally transported to NYC and not registered per the state’s SAFE law (grandfathered guns may be owned, but can ONLY be transferred, under all conditions, to the state).

60,000 rounds is only 1000 rounds per gun. That’s not much.

One of the rifles looks to be an M14. It has a pistol grip. I've seen a ton of M1As, and none had a pistol grip. The only examples that I have seen with a pistol grip have been GI and full auto capable.

The article doesn't do a very good job explaining what the guy got hauled in for but a bunch of these weapons could be full auto, which would go a long way toward an explanation.

The comments had several comments from people familiar with the story and a few mentioned that the guy was a felon and several others claimed the police found the guns while responding to a drug complaint.

Poor reporting was also obviously involved.
