My 80 lb. Siberian Husky died in her sleep at 17-before we got her, we had an 85 lb. Chow who also lived to 17. I still miss my Husky girl, even though she’s been gone 2 years-she helped save my ass when the former occupant of this property kicked in the door while I was working on a bid at the copmputer by jumping up at my side, showing teeth and snarling-gave me time to reach my pistol, order the intruder out and call the sheriff-if I lived in a city or town, my beloved companion and protector might have been on one of those ridiculous banned/bad dog lists. I don’t want another dog-she was that special to me...
I Have had 2 German Shepherds-both female-one lived to 14, the other to 13-the 1st one appointed herself personal bodyguard of our then-4 year old cub, and remained just that all her life, even when the cub was in her teens-she adopted an AKC Pit Bull puppy 12 years ago-the puppy was one of several Pits and Boxers taken from a kennel that had devolved into a puppy mill-AKC does not like that, and busted them-he is an indoor dog, my daughter’s guard-but loves to sit on your lap and crush your legs if he knows you.
I’ve only had one dog that was not on these banned/vicious lists-an Aussie Shepherd-, and I’ve never owned a small dog, preferring the larger guard/working breeds as canine companions. Those dogs do need a firm hand with an owner that is always the alpha-obedience training, patience, a good harness and leash, etc are a necessity as well-you, the human are responsible for your pet as well as your gun...
