I don’t think Irans going to walk away from Syria.....they would settle if Syria was divided according to their interests....some think that might happen in time. ...Syria is too important to them. Assad cannot survive, nor would he have been able to, without the influx $$ and support of Iran. Iran also recruits and trains fighters out of Pakistan and Afghanistan......... Hezbollah fighters are also backed by Iran.
Gatestone Institute estimated that as of late 2016, Iran controlled over 70,000 troops deployed in Syria (15,000 soldiers of the Iranian military, 20,000 members of Liwa Fatemiyoun, 20,000 Iraqi militiamen in ten different groups, 10,000 Lebanese Hezbollah fighters, and 5,000 to 7,000 Pakistani and Palestinian militiamen), while also paying monthly salaries to 250,000 “militia and agents” supporting the Assad government.
So this war is really a Proxy war far more against Iran than with Assad.
It's an inheritance from the obsequious pacifism of Trump's predecessors. You want peace? ... then just submit. It was a slow process, but that was where we were at. What does it take to turn it around? An act of war. It's playground logic, and playground reality.
Actually imho Iran’s days are numbered. One - continuing and nonstop protests against the regime by Iranians. Second, Trump is not going to allow Iran to develop nukes. Third, the GCC led by Saudis is not going to allow Iran to develop nukes.
