Once you come after them criminally, they’ll lawyer up. I was referring to a police IAB investigation. Very often dirty cops will resign rather than cooperate with IAB and face internal discipline. In order to get them on corruption charges, you have to go after them criminally and then they have all the rights and privileges of any other citizen.
So if there was a dirty cop who took bribes, stabbed people who wouldn’t pay up etc. it would be best to keep him on full duty, full pay and full access to all records for a few years instead of firing him. Got it.
