One of the most offensive things you can say to a Russian, especially born before 1990 is “Cold War is over.”
Know this from experience.
Syrian base, Crimea...not enough. Not the end game.
The agenda is wanting to avenge the fall of the Soviet Union. Options/Economic resources are limited so they are going to do whatever it takes to destabilize things in our path so that we take notice. Everything is designed to cross paths with us. If its not Syria, it will be something else. Please remember that.
They know nothing will escalate too much due to our fear of nuclear war.
So create just enough of a mess to catch us off guard to distract us from our own pressing agendas back home. Lest we forget big powerful Russia again!
Its childish, but thats how their leaders think especially.
So they tricked Assad into being an ally for the last 35 years and inviting them in to fight Al-Qaeda?
But Russia didn’t start this fight in Syria. The USA did.

The Russians in this case are not ‘crossing paths with us’, we’re doing it to them.
