House Speaker Paul Ryan is not seeking re-election and will retire from Congress after this year, the Wisconsin Republican announced Wednesday. "You realize something when you take this job," Ryan told reporters on Capitol Hill on Wednesday morning. "It's a big job with a lot riding on you ... but you also know this is not a job that does not last forever. ... You realize you hold the office for just a small part of our history. So you better make the most of it." He reminded reporters that he took the job "reluctantly" in 2015, when he took over from John Boehner, but Ryan also said he has no "regrets."

He should resign as Speaker today so we can get a leader in there. Only way that happens is if they pick someone not a current Congress-critter as Speaker. Which, I understand, is perfectly legal.

He cashes in.
He will be paid well by the large corporations he looked out for while pretending to be a conservative.

I still wish he would have a happy retirement. Mr. Ryan is several years younger than I am; he could do a lot of fun and worthwhile things with his remaining active years.

After that bloated budget he helped pass Ryan should resign. He only barely stood up to Obama. We need a good solid Conservative to replace him.
To: Alas Babylon!
He and Boehner saw fit we are trillions of dollars in debt. I read all the time slavery is ‘evil’, but these two were addicted to spending taxpayer dollars worse than drunken sailors. Good riddance to lying Ryan ... worst speaker since Hasdart...
Maybe they earned sainthood off ‘we the people’, they sure funneled enough taxpayers dollars to Rome.
To: Alas Babylon!
Good riddance.
And good riddance to Kevin McCarthy too.
Do we have to keep getting Speakers from liberal or swing states?
Why not a Speaker from a solid GOP state.

There has been a rumor for months that Ryan would retire so that he could prepare to challenge Trump in 2020.
We shall see.
