Arkansas sailor killed aboard USS Oklahoma in Pearl Harbor attack identified

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark.

USS Oklahoma. Capsized 07 DEC 1941, refloated and shipped to West Coast where it took on water and sank.

USS Arkansas was used in nuclear testing in the South Pacific. She shelled Point Du Hoc and other Normandy targets on D-Day. God Bless the Tipton Family and all of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice!

Those poor young men on that ship. From what I understand the Oklahoma was due to have a shipwide inspection that day so all the bulkhead doors were open to allow passage of the visiting inspection party. When the attack began the ship was hit with several torpedoes and they weren't able to close all the bulkhead doors and the Oklahoma rolled over(port side, I think). So many sailors were trapped in compartments that flooded. God, how horrible.
