As I see it there's at least 3 possibilities regarding Sessions.
1) He's part of the N-Dimensional chess match and Trump's frustration with him is a cover story
2) He's in over his head - the Peter Principle in action
3) He's part of the 'insurance policy' and has been since day 1 of his support

The odds are not in favor of the plus column.
