“Well this retired Soldier would be happy to be recalled to active duty to show either California or South Carolina the error of their ways on succession at the point of a bayonet. As Daniel Webster said: ...Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable!
Even if the succession was a result of a clear and deliberate violation by the Federal Gov’t of our enumerated rights?
Being retired military I am sure you know, more than anyone else, that once a gov’t disarms the people, tyranny always follows.
I would think that a clear violation of an enumerated right, especially the 2nd, by the Feds, breaks the contract with the states.
Countries do not stay together forever, and the people of this country are now so diametrically opposed to each other that a separation might be the best thing (if it can be done peacefully) in the future.
I would hope you would reconsider you position if a future President of the neo-Marxist persuasion would use the courts or executive orders to institute confiscation (and use Hitler/Stalin tactics) ... and states respond by succeeding from the union.
Union for the sake of “Union” is not worth it if it means subjugation of liberties to the “State” as was done by many tyrants in the 20th century.
Judicial modification of The Bill of Rights represents a breach of the contract that is defined by the original Constitution.
