COLUMBIA, S.C.
South Carolina debated seceding from the Union more than 150 years ago, one of the opening salvos of the Civil War. Now, the topic has come up again, amid a national debate over firearms and gun rights.
A trio of state House Republicans on Thursday quietly introduced a bill that would allow lawmakers to debate seceding from the U.S. "if the federal government confiscates legally purchased firearms in this State."
Rep. Mike Pitts, the measure's chief sponsor, acknowledged Friday in an interview with The Associated Press that the bill has no chance of passage this year but pledged to continue to raise the issue based on what he described as a defense of the Bill of Rights.
"Without a Bill of Rights, our nation is not what it is," Pitts said. "I see a lot of stuff where people even talk about totally repealing the Second Amendment, which separates us from the entire rest of the world."

Your right, the states are not sovereign. They do not have the ability to declare war, make treaties with other countries, or a myriad of other powers that sovereign nations have. As Chief Justice Marshall stated in McCulloch v. Maryland; “once the states set in motion
the process that led to the adoption of the Constitution, the newly created federal government obtained from the citizenry a sovereignty that was beyond the states control”
California wants to secede over illegal invaders. SC wants to secede over gun grabbers. Who wants to secede next? State your issue, take a number, get in line.
I don’t think it will be state vs. state or region vs region like the last time. The picture/lanscape has changed since then. Today, it’s more political ideology than anything else (socialism vs individual freedom).
Just rid ourselves of all the insane, moronic libs ( the walking democrats) and the nation will be better and stronger than it’s ever been in its history.
Just declare the state a sanctuary state from federal gun laws.
Liberals have set the precedent with several states being “sanctuary” states from immigration AND drug laws.
You are correct you don’t secede you make the other dumb bastard secede. You declare an emergency session of Congress made up of loyal red state senators and representatives and you vote out Cali, NY, NE Illinois. But this is the important part they don’t get to keep the whole states, West New York is ours they get to keep downstate, we keep Illinois they get Chicago. They get SF and LA we keep almost everything else. And if they won’t secede we expulse them. Good riddance!
That's an important point, the breakup should be by county. The seceding states would be like a federation of Singapores or Hong Kongs, not a full country.
then why do you keep voting for that idiot Graham?
It’s inevitable. It is gonna happen. Too much bad blood between the masses. I’ve stated it multiple times on FR throughout the years:
WE CANNOT CO-EXIST WITH THE LEFT.
My 6.5 Creedmoor is good for a thousand yards... if not for the tragic canoeing accident.
Waco- Ruby ridge-
Anyone showing civil disobedience will be labeled as extremists terrorists etc and the government will use it as an excuse to use force.
Yeah, I know. But, a lot has changed since then. People no longer automatically assume that government is right and is the good guy. There is a higher level of healthy skepticism and distrust of the government than in the past. Also, Social media, internet, conservative news has made it much more difficult for the government to deceive the people.
Yeah that will work for the crowd in front, while the crowd in the back chucks molotovs through the ground floor and basement windows, chanting hey hey ho ho every freeper has to go!
maybe a SAW or M-60...

Self-reliance. Self-respect. Looking straight ahead, proud for once not looking down at the ground for my mama's tit.
By God, I love this place.
I moved to SC last December, and I echo your sentiments.
It's nice to breathe the air like a freeman.
Judicial modification of The Bill of Rights represents a breach of the contract that is defined by the original Constitution.
Then your oath was a false one, and now you’ve told the whole world that this was so.
Right and we control transport, electric and water supply. We can charge them for the use.
