Legacy incandescent light bulbs are actually pretty efficient IR heat generators, and in fact, such a bulb in a confined space can heat a room to sufficient level to prevent freeze up of water pipes even in severely sub-zero weather.
Some 98% of the energy they consume is released as heat.
Halogen bulbs were a little more intense in heat generation, while the light output per watt was also somewhat higher. The difference with halogen bulbs, is that the energy can be more sharply focused, depending on the design of the glass envelope.
In addition, I’m not a fan of halogen, flourescent or LED lights. They really change observed color. Being the artist that I am, that factor matters a lot to me.
