To be fair, Charles Barkley was certainly not aiming for the eight-year-old girl that his saliva ended up hitting. And to his credit, Barkley made it right by not only apologizing, but also hooking her and her family up with tickets to games anytime he was in town.
The true target of the spit, a man who had been abusing Barkley with racial epithets all game, escaped punishment; while Sir Charles was apologetic about his decision to spit in the first place, he also pointed out that he was standing up for himself, saying that "I don't think a fan has the right to come to the game and be abusive."

I don’t think a player should go to the games and be abusive either. And if you had acted like an adult and not spit at anyone, the little girl you nailed for no reason wouldn’t have been harmed at all.
When Barley, like all other pro athletes, chose to step into the public eye as a player, did they really think they were paid such a ridiculous amount of money to play a game. If they did they are a bigger fools than anyone thought. His job was to execute in a contest so the fans would either like or hate him, but buy tickets and jerseys. He gave up his personal life when he inked the contract. He gave up his privacy and normalcy for the money when he was on court.
I see little reason for him to be here on these boards as he has nothing to offer humanity with his lack of capacity at intelligent thought. If all he can do as a human is spit on someone, and miss at that, then he is truly the beast he is being tagged with. And a really stupid one at that. What differentiates a man or woman from other animals is our ability to reasonable thought. He obviously lacks it. A productive adult shouldn’t have accomplished what he did and does and think apologizing for it is the answer. A practical adult wouldn’t have done it at all. He’s never grown up.
