SESSIONS IS MOVING SHREWDLY ON THE FISA ABUSE INVESTIGATION
POwerline ^ | March 30,2018 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 04/01/2018 6:53:27 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Moreover, Sessions was, in fact, using Justice Department lawyers with prosecutorial power in connections with potential FISA and related abuses. Since November, John Huber, the U.S. Attorney for Utah, has been on the case. Trump apparently didn’t know this, but he should have. Sometimes it’s better to talk to the Attorney General than mindlessly to blast him on Twitter.

Huber was appointed by President Obama, but his name was submitted by Senators Hatch and Lee of Utah. Thus, his selection by Sessions seems like a shrewd move. As Obama’s nominee it will be difficult for critics plausibly to paint him as anti-Democrat. But as the favorite of Hatch and Lee, Republicans should be confident that he’s not in the Democrats’ pocket. Moreover, because Huber works out of Utah, it’s unlikely that he’s connected in any way with D.C. insiders such as James Comey and Andrew McCabe.

What about the decision to use a U.S. attorney rather than appoint a special counsel? This decision also seems sound, and not just because I don’t like special counsels. The combination of the IG and the USA should be able to accomplish as much as a special counsel would — and accomplish it faster and with less fanfare.

The absence of fanfare is an advantage because it makes it more difficult for Democrats and their media partners to push the idea that anyone is being persecuted. A Justice Department investigation headed by two Obama appointees is harder to shoot at than a special counsel. And, of course, nothing prevents Sessions from appointing a special counsel if changed circumstances militate in favor of doing so.

In sum, Sessions has handled this matter well, Trump’s foolish tweets notwithstanding.

The DoJ is like a DoLoop.

They make up the crimes and make up the perps.

They have no legitimacy.

It’s all Statist Kabuki.

Only another five or six years and we’ll get an outline of an overview.

” POTUS is truly in a box on this one.”

That is the TRUTH! And just who put him in that box? Answer: Jeff Sessions. I hope I have to eat crow here, but I firmly believe that Sessions is a RINO Mole who ingratiated himself with the POTUS in order to garner the AG job, so he could proceed, with Rosenschmeckel’s help, to f*ck Trump up, down, and sideways!
Just think where we would be today with an effective, decent, loyal AG.
Secondly, I also firmly believe that the GOPE wants to throw this election so they can go back to being “the loyal opposition,” get paid for doing nothing, and have everything go back to what they see as “normal!”

NOV 2017 Jeff Sessions:

He doesn’t want any part of a Special Counsel Investigating Hillary, and argues with Jim Jordan, you can have your idea, BUT....

He’s been against it from the outset. Huber is a stooge.

Just had a very bad thought based on my opinion that not one of the treasonous acts of Hillary, Obama, or anyone in the deep state will ever be acted on.

Comey opening up the investigation into Hillary's emails basically cost her the election and never made sense to me...unless the deep state wanted Trump to win.

How nefarious it gets from there and why I don't know but I do know that while I hope Trump ends up proving me drastically wrong, so far he isn't giving me reason to think that long term we may be still headed in a very bad direction.

You’re not wrong and deserve kudos for first saying that magoo insinuated himself into the Trump campaign as a means of a control for the corrupt state.

None of us will have to eat crow because Sessions has already done catastrophic damage to the Trump presidency and by extension America’s chance for survival.

If comey was doing his job, Hillary would have never been a candidate. She’d be in prison.

"....The folks who would do the “investigating” and prosecuting are openly defying Congressional subpoenas OF THEIR OWN PARTY. If they won’t produce documents they certainly won’t be producing perp walks....”

This is not the entire story. This is simplistic view of what really is going on.

Horowitz at OIG is investigating criminal wrongdoing in the FBI and DOJ. Huber is obtaining indictments and preparing criminal cases. Sessions is overseeing the two. If they don't get their cases right, the bad guys could easily walk.

Enter Congress, who is holding hearings to investigate Russian interference in the election. They're a political body and can't prosecute.

Any prosecutor working on criminal indictments would not release any documents relating to their case to Congress, unless they were redacted to prevent Congress from knowing the details of the criminal cases. The requested documents were finally delivered, heavily redacted for that reason.

Being in the same political party has nothing to do with whether the documents were turned over to Congress or not. The fact that the documents related to criminal activity, which is not under the purview of Congress, especially in active, on-going cases, could not be trusted in the hands of Congress.

Congress is partisan to begin with. Then there is the problem of them leaking the criminal cases to the NYT and WP. They would destroy the prosecutor's cases overnight.

So don't conflate the OIG investigators and DOJ prosecutors not wanting to give up documents showing the evidence of crimes they are working on to Congress, with that of the Congress and Sessions being in the same party.

Congress is concerned with political conclusions while the OIG and DOJ are concerned with criminal wrongdoing.

They were right in defying the release of those documents. It would have ended any criminal case they were preparing.

"...focus on making the Freepers happy..."

Based on the depths of immaturity and the heights of hatred in some of the Never-Jeff posts, I reluctantly believe some here would actually be unhappy to see Sessions succeed.

Naturally, there are varied definitions of what succeeding would mean anyway. Obviously some just want Sessions to conduct some Star Chamber type mis-justice. Impatience is natural, but it certainly is not a virtue.

There is a difference between the righteous indignation we all feel regarding the Obama era in-justice and literally anti-justice behavior and policies. And the outright hatred some show for an AG who is by far the most by-the-book justice-centered guy in that role in generations.

Appropriate AG behavior is hard to recognize because it is unfamiliar to us. But I find the folks unreasonable who think it is more likely Jeff is some liberal swamp plant than it is that he is just doing exactly what he says he is doing - old-fashioned non-partisan justice, slow and sure.

I think it helps to take a breath sometimes (not you) and remember that a valid AG's definition of success is not the posse actions some crave against the many seemingly guilty. SuperJeff's goal is to restore the validity of process... and thus reputation of the US Dept of Justice.

Success to Jeff is the restoration of bi-partisan and general public confidence in his department's ability to perform its non-partisan duties. And, in that most important regard, you could not script a better textbook process than that which Sessions has pursued.

His cooperation with the both-parties appointee IG and choice of the R-nominated / D-appointed US attorney are both fantastically boring and prudent choices to achieve the goal of rebuilding confidence in the DOJ. The reflex to appt more special Mules is natural but not helpful. Jeff knows you don't rebuild a working justice by farming it all out to fisherman.

I am afraid you’re all too right! The only thing that may save Trump is when he sees he’s in a corner of no return, he will, realizing it’s his only way out, lay a bloody trail of RAT/RINO bodies to mark the way to the truth. I will lay you odds that never in his entire business career, dealing with slimy business people who sought to do him in, that he ever encountered the likes of our country’s political class.

I have complete confidence in President Trump and A.G. Sessions. Rosenstein too, for that matter.

The criminal conspiracy is HUGE and multi-faceted. They need TIME, and they need a degree of secrecy until the cases are prepared, because as soon as the targets are publicized the blizzard of lies, counterattacks and covering of tracks will begin.

the FIRST OPEN ASSAULT MUST BE DEVASTATING, not half-baked, just to give 5 minutes of satisfaction.

We want LOTS of these traitors and criminals behind bars.

Honestly, I do not know what is so hard to understand about this concept.
