Attorney General Jeff Sessions designated U.S. attorney John Huber as the prosecutor tasked with looking into allegations of abuse of power at the FBI.
In a Thursday letter to Congress, Sessions said this appointment was made in response to requests for a special counsel investigation of the claims. The attorney general said, however, that Huber will be the one determining "whether any matters merit the appointment of a special counsel....In his letter, Sessions said he will take the necessary actions to defend the integrity of the Justice Department and its work.
"We understand that the Department is not above criticism and it can never be that the Department conceals errors when they occur," Sessions wrote.
The attorney general said he expects the department's staff to operate with the "highest level of integrity, ethic, and professionalism."
"If anyone falls short of these standards, I will fulfill my responsibility to take necessary action to protect the integrity of our work," he said.

Lighten up, this is a huge step forward. Attorneys speak legalese while they make a case. What? You would prefer Sessions say, "We're going nail the sob's, and if some dip shit geek kid gets in the way, we'll nail him to?
The DC Deep State has subverted our Republic system for years. Would you rather Trump administration go all out and accuse every one in public without a thorough investigation? Be patient. Carlson, Hannity, and Ingraham are laying this out daily. They are doing yeoman's work.
Hang tough.
I have been a Trump supporter since the beginning. Why did it take you a long time to figure it out?
Amazing what you'd discover if you pulled your head out into the sunshine and looked around...
(BTW, look up why those military tribunals consist of twelve officers -- not nine...)
Because I'm a strong Conservative who requires strong evidence -- instead of being pushed around by emotion.
I supported Cruz until about Dec 2015 or so and switched to Trump. I’ve been a loud supporter of Trump. And of Sessions. I would have supported Sessions for potus over cruz.
But Sessions has performed weakly as AG. I see no real excuse for it. I know some think this is some deep strategery going on, and I wanted to believe that, but it’s more rational now to trust no one and to verify all that we can.
I’ve been played too many times by the establishment. No reason to think this isn’t more of the same.
Given all that, why are we 'looking into' anything? Hell, a yokel prosecutor from 'Mayberry USA' would have had asses in the clink by now!
Distract and divert, and bread and circus.
Has anyone been charged with a crime yet?
Sessions is on that BS train pretending that he is doing something. This is not a criminal investigation it is a exercise in writing a report to be sent to Rosentein then real AG. I would bet the the appointment of Huber was set-up by and approved by Roaentein. Sessions is just the clown they send out to promote the BS
Look up "indictment" (nearly 20K by now...) in your Funk & Wagnalls...
Like who?
Look up "SEALED indictment" (nearly 20K by now...) in your Funk & Wagnalls...
If you have ‘SEALED’ indictments, you don’t appoint someone to ‘look into’ what you have already indicted. There aren’t 20K crooks in the execution branch trying to stage a coup. I would suggest these are unrelated to the issue at hand.
In the dictionary is SEALED INDICTMENT right under NOBODY BUSTED YET?
Myers v. United States, 272 U.S. 52 (1926), was a United States Supreme Court decision ruling that the President has the exclusive power to remove executive branch officials, and does not need the approval of the Senate or any other legislative body.
Right now I would settle for half a dozen. Just shut Mueller down.
You still don't understand.
It isn't a crime
It's been my position that a president can fire anybody in the executive branch. It's been my position that a president cannot obstruct justice by firing his AG.
What I'm saying is that it is the position of the Democrats and RINOs, that firing Mueller/Rosenstein/Sessions would be obstruction of justice.
Do you understand now?
When it is your sole prerogative to fire the AG then it isn’t obstruction of justice- for one thing the AG is an administrator and not the investigating staff, but if you had a brain you’d already know that. Save your supercilious “do you understand” for someone who confuses your blather with knowledge.
When it is your sole prerogative to fire the AG then it isnt obstruction of justice
I've only said that over-and-over again.
There's something wrong with you. Reading comprehension perhaps.
An Obama appointee and recommended by Rod Rosenstein, what could possibly go wrong?
Go back to sleep, Sessions, when you do do something it is worse than when you don’t do anything.
