Interesting since the Apostles’ Creed said during Mass includes HE ‘... was crucified, died, and was buried. HE descended into hell; the third day HE rose again from the dead. HE ascended into heaven....’
Must say, don’t recall the ‘descended into hell’ language being in the prayer when I was a child (eons ago)

It was in the prayer when we recited it everyday in class, starting around 1948.
Apparently after the third day, he descended into Hell and then left because he found that there was nobody home...
