Pope Francis leads the Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday, during which sacred oils are blessed at Saint Peter's Basilica, at the Vatican, on March 29. That same day, Italian newspaper La Repubblica revealed that the pontiff believed that hell did not exist

LOL!
I would not rely on Newsweek or their so called source for any religious news. So though I am not a fan of Il Duce Papa, this I will take with a grain of salt or brimstone.
And while one of the two versions of the Lord’s Prayer says “....and deliver us from the evil one...” I guess Satan doesn’t exist either....the Pope may be guilty of the one unforgivable sin...blaspheming the Holy Spirit....
So when will he begin re writing the liturgy?
Stupid Newsweek writer. Catholic Church will not change one iota of doctrinal teaching. It teaches what it has always taught from Jesus and the Apostles till now. Dummy doesn’t get it that no Pope can change Catholic teaching.
Aside from that, Scalfari can’t be trusted to report the truth. We have no way of knowing whether what he said the Pope said was actually said. He takes no notes and makes no recordings, but writes from memory. Good way to put out false info.
As to the Pope, why he continues to give this guy interviews is beyond me. I don’t pay any attention anymore.
Hard to tell where the Pope is getting his theology from-maybe the NYT.
Specious argument. The planet Earth is a finite locale and thus, by your logic, we should know the current population. Truth is, we can only estimate. Further, in the spirit plane, we have no concept of space/size so we will never know "how big it is". How big is Heaven? It is a physical place, so that should be an easy answer as well, should it not? Have you been granted access to Heaven? St. John was and he never said how big it was, only the dimensions of the New Jerusalem.
Hell is a physical place, just in another dimension, one that we do not have access to in this life. Hell as a condition is true but that does not preclude the reality of it being a physical location.
Will the Catholic Church be refunding tithes?
What a Pope this guy has turned out to be. Go have fun folks, don’t worry about the hereafter. The old Pope says there is no hell! LOL.
and more importantly where did Jesus go for the three days after the crucifiction.
Nor does it require a physical location. The eternal punishment is not fire and brimstone and devils poking you with pitchforks. The eternal punishment is exclusion from God's grace and presence. That doesn't require a place for that to happen. Pope Francis' statement, even if it is accurate, keeps the concept of eternal damnation and does not conflict in any substantial way from the teachings of Scripture.
In light of your post: * In a statement released on Mar. 29, after Scalfaris report garnered worldwide attention, the Vatican said:
The Holy Father Francis recently received the founder of the newspaper La Repubblica in a private meeting on the occasion of Easter, without however giving him any interviews. What is reported by the author in todays article [in La Repubblica] is the result of his reconstruction, in which the textual words pronounced by the Pope are not quoted. No quotation of the aforementioned article must therefore be considered as a faithful transcription of the words of the Holy Father.
I would have hoped that Pope Francis, by now, had learned the lesson of expecting to be misquoted at the best and to have his words twisted to what the atheist reporter wanted to have him say.
I don’t believe the Pope was misquoted or taken out of context. Pope Francis does not believe in anything remotely resembling orthodox Catholicism or Christianity and he has been undermining the faith it since he became Pope. This time, it blew up in his face, so he lied. Yes, he LIED. Furthermore, I suspect everyone who has been following Frankie’s papacy closely knows that he lied. (This journalist probably will fall on his sword for Frankie, for the sake of continued access to him.)
Unbelievable!
“I would not rely on Newsweek”

It’s in other, credible sources, e.g. -

Francis the Postmodern
Why would THIS POPE say hell exists since he knows he is an agent of hell? Of course he denies it exists.
I’m sure Hillary, Soros, Rothchilds, et al, deny it exists, too.
The black left eye society posse all deny it exists.
“Marxist politician would suit him better.”

Apparently he agrees:
“The interview is headlined, “The Pope: It is an honor to be called revolutionary.” (Il Papa: È un onore essere chiamato rivoluzionario.”)”
I agree with you, which is why I said however credible.
Theyve been using the translation excuse ever since this man became pope.
Bergoglio needs to go yesterday.
