I think China wants to be in the loop and control the whole process. They want to keep their leverage on N. Korea, when dealing with U.S.. They probably hope that they can also increase their leverage on N. Korea after bailing NK out from the current jam.

I think, for NK, they want to exploit conflict between U.S. and China which is on-going on many issues, getting the best deal out of it.

However, NK may be asked to give up more than it is willing to. That could be a major sticking point.

Xi and Kim did not look upbeat while together. Kim stayed only a day in Beijing. It could be an indication that things did not go smoothly. On the other hand, Kim could have been mindful of what would happen if he is away from Pyongyang for too long.

I think this has more to do with posturing.

NK offers nothing to China but President Trump creates a bit of a problem.

Basketballs from Half-Bright are not going to work.

Norkboy sent missiles over the Sea and that requires a response.

The media is doing a fine job with stormy.

Late to respond but agree with your take.

China's Xi wants to be seen as the “Worlds” peacemaker leader.....he's positioned himself such that FatBoy is nothing more than a nuisance in his way now, though China still wants NKorea itself as a buffer zone.
