Today, President Donald J. Trump offered a new way possible for America to build the border wall, even after the omnibus spending bill signed on Friday left many wondering if construction will ever start. His suggestion? Have the military build it.
Early Sunday morning, President Trump pointed out the fact that the border wall is a matter of national security. America therefore should simply have the Department of Defense over see the project in order to keep out drugs and enemy combatants, according to the commander in chief.
Because of the $700 & $716 Billion Dollars gotten to rebuild our Military, many jobs are created and our Military is again rich. Building a great Border Wall, with drugs (poison) and enemy combatants pouring into our Country, is all about National Defense. Build WALL through M! Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 25, 2018
It is estimated that the border wall will cost roughly $18 billion dollars. The omnibus bill allotted only $1.6 billion, but President Trump says a lot can be done with that money.
Much can be done with the $1.6 Billion given to building and fixing the border wall. It is just a down payment. Work will start immediately. The rest of the money will come - and remember DACA, the Democrats abandoned you (but we will not)! Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 25, 2018
President Trump's comments echo similar statements made last December when he touted border security as his first pillar of defense in a speech on National Security.
As reported by CNS News, President Trump said,
First, we must protect the American people, the homeland and our great American way of life, Trump said. This strategy recognizes that we cannot secure our nation if we do not secure our borders."
"So, for the first time ever, American strategy now includes a serious plan to defend our homeland,"added Trump. "It calls for the construction of a wall on out southern border, ending chain migration and the horrible visa and lottery programs, closing loopholes that undermine enforcement, and strongly supporting our Border Patrol agents, ICE officers, and Homeland Security Personnel.
Trumps First Pillar of National Security: Build the Border Wall
YAFOS. Look up what the US Army Corps of Engineers does.
Get all the new overweight recruits, men and women, in shape.
Unfortunately the courts would stop this before he could get the first shovel full of dirt. The stupid Omnibus boxed him in, he caved to Congress without a fight, now is stuck with the results, a few miles of pathetic fence repairs. Not much to write home about.
“Texas has numerous YUGE reservoirs that were built — and are operated — by the USACOE... “
The Bourne and Sagamore bridges to Cape Cod were built by them also———and they operate them too.
.
Army Corps of Engineers built the border fence using private contractors. There’s no reason that they can’t build the Wall the same way. The increase in the new DOD budget may have had that in mind all along.
Explain how the courts will physically stop the military from following a direct order from the Commander-in-Chief and building The Wall.
You are full of BuffaloCrap
Um. The military builds fortification and roads. It’s what they do.
“... It is expressly prohibited to user military funding IN THE BILL ...”

Do you have a page reference or some other link to that?
Seriously, I would like to read that.
(or are you just blowing smoke out of your eyes or whatever?)
Border security, including “a border wall, the use of multilayered defenses and advanced technology, the employment of additional personnel, and other measures” was formerly identified as a priority in the 2017 National Security Strategy, which was given to the Military to guide their planning. (So was the threat from China.)
When formally given challenges like that, our Military planners will develop approaches to address them, as sure as as night follows day.
White House Chief of Staff General Kelly brings together the National Command Authority in the White House, with Senior Military Experience as well as being former Secretary Homeland Security. He is the perfect mix of skills to get this thing done.
If Military resources are used, it is possible that additional billions per year might be spent. $5 billion a year from DoD for two years, plus the $1.6 billion per year to Homeland security equals $13.2 billion over two years - over a thousand miles of thirty foot bollards and paved patrol road with utility conduit for cameras and alarms (those numbers for DoD are purely hypothetical).
By the time that is done, self driving cars could be ready to patrol the road 24x7, scanning for crossers, and operating ground penetrating radar scans for tunnelers. Whole new ball game on the border. DoD could also further expand the sensors they already operate along the border, such as the Aerostat program, with new fleets of drones and even higher end surveillance assets, like dedicated satellites.
New elements within the Military could be established to maintain constant situational awareness along the border, and, establish routine Multi-Agency coordination with Homeland Security, sharing the real time views of the entire border - a NORAD-like command center, with data feeds shared to local Border Patrol stations, and even to Border Patrol Officers in their vehicles, while on the move.
USNORTHCOM, tasked with defending the Homeland, and already rich with surveillance expertise and Multi-Agency coordination, could establish a new Joint Task Force for Border Security (JTF-BS, on second thought, perhaps a different acronym....).
It is really just a question of finding the money, and DoD is the biggest pot of money out there, with the greatest Presidential discretion. DoD also has powerful capabilities to bring to the fight.
Things like walls are why we have the Army Corps of Engineers. As I understand it, engineers and bridge and road builders have been critical to military success since the Greeks and Carthaginians were toddlers. Roman siege engines, etc. And as the posters have said, this wall is very high-tech, and definitely a defense against a military threat.
I think it's a brilliant and logical move. I hope he does it. Just to see the liberals twitch spasmodically.
Somebody better build it or there is going to be some real unhappy people!!!
Are you on the right thread?
New thirty foot bollards and patrol road going up now in Calexico, CA.:
It really depends what he means. When the Air Force needs planes, they have the budget but contract with Lockheed, Boeing, Grumman, etc. They oversee the contracts, but civilians do the actual hands-on work. The Air Force is primarily a budget conduit for the airplanes.
If the military is a budget conduit for the wall, it will get built.
“We built a damn wall in Baghdad to secure the Green Zone.”
We built hundreds of miles of ditch/berm vehicle barrier along the Iraqi/Syrian border as well.
The Corps of Engineers does not involve soldiers driving bulldozers but is extremely competent at managing design and construction on a massive, complex scale. Think more on on-time, on-budget and on-specification. Or better.
It is not at all controversial to have the COE running a large scale government construction project. In the military’s earlier history, the best and brightest out of West Point began their careers in the COE. It remains a strong engineering college. Very strong.
Do you really think Trump would ignore the court? Especially if he has Congress and the media cheering them on?
Well, in California, we have the suede denim secret police.
