I defended trump and lost two good long time friends over it. I wish I had my friends back now.

We don’t agree on everything, but this much I’ll say. If you want to get back with your friends, just spend less time on online forums and more time with them. If they’re really your friends, you’ll ease back into your old patterns. It’s a lot like riding a bike. There’s a reason why you clicked in the first place. Heck, you could even break the ice by saying “You were right - Trump’s a bozo”.

Online forums are wonderful for letting off steam, but these are, at best, pen pal-style* friendships. Your online buddies aren’t going to help you move, give you a ride to the airport, feed your dogs when you’re away or, last but not least, give you a mulligan when your golf game is suffering from last night’s alcohol-soaked debauchery.

* You can tell someone is as old as the hills if he knows what a pen pal is.
