CEMEX Lapis plant has been providing employment for blue collar workers for the last 112 years. Truck drivers service the plant. The sand goes out to the construction and sand blasting industries. Until I read this article last year, I hadn’t realized all the sand plants in the area that had been quietly shut down. I remember all the sand operations in the 70s when Ord was still active. It’s just a shadow of what it once was.
