Who was Jonathon Swift?

An English/Irish cleric and writer of satire through the first half of the 1700s. You probably know “Gulliver’s Travels”, and may know “a Modest Proposal”. He’s distinct and prominent enough that his style of satire is referred to as “Swiftian”.

My tag line isn’t so much a reference to him, as to the logic of the quotation itself.
