And, as I remember, life was not easy for the Irish .... considered 2nd class , paid low wages. I’ve avoided the large NE metro areas and know nothing..... Is Boston’s “southie” Irish, or an Irish neighborhood ?
Both, but now changing because of gentrification.

South Boston - Irish
North End - Italian
Beacon Hill, Back Bay - Yankee
Roxbury - African-American
Mattapan - Jewish
Southie is Irish, run by the Irish mob, North is Italian, run by the Cosa Nostra. But some really good Italian food In the 70's when Boston desegregated local schools and started Busing kids, Major riots in Shouthie. As the Old Irish Mayor of Boston (1930's)used to say - Vote often - Nothing new under the sun for Democrats
Well, if you are in Southie today for the Parade, Everybody is Irish!
