What LAW requires that a owner "vet" the renter?"
It might be wise and prudent for the owner to do so - but what LAW demands it?
What if I rent someone a pushcart? A lawn-mower? A tennis court? A camping pitch?
Could some 14-year-old trick me into renting one to her, and then cause damages? Are you saying that I would have violated a LAW by not "vetting" her? And just what do you mean here by "vetting?" More than just establishing her age?
Regards,
Now for the last couple of weeks the MSM has been telling me that TEENAGERS are so knowledgeable and wise when it comes to responsibility and safety for the kids, why isn’t she being held personally responsible for her actions?
What happened to the girl?
I do not know about this, “wilderness experience” thing.
My son is wandering off the straight and narrow, is this aimed at refocusing a kid?
Links would be much appreciated.
Depends on the program
Most are geared toward helping teens who have problems with alcohol and or drugs. Some include oppositional kids
Outward Bound is for teens to challenge themselves
Even for the ordinary teen it can be amazing
Only 2)K?
Pikers.
When I was young a friend threw a party at his ‘rents mini manse.
One long weekend.
In today’s dollars, around 120K in repairs. they had to replace the bathrooms...after they replaced the ceilings ... and good plasterers are expensive.... even 40+ years ago.
I’m not familiar with Canadian laws, but in most states there is a ceiling on the amount of liability parents are held to for the criminal actions of their children (usually around $2,500 to $5,000).
However, were it my kid, I’d file a criminal complaint for credit card fraud and give the report to the credit card company and advise them to look into the property owner for failing to properly vet an agreement made with a minor (void at law). Then I’d let my kid take her lumps in juvenile court assured that the record will be expunged once she turns 18 and (hopefully) has learned a very painful lesson.
Good point!
Hadn’t thought of that. Makes things a lot more difficult.
:)
Not always with AirBnB. Keys are usually in lockboxes. We have stayed in places where we have never met our “host”.
I wonder if it was AirBnB? All done online and key left in lockbox, no one would know her age if she used her parents’ credit card to create an account and chose a property with of site host.
Yes. Several others have also mentioned this possibility. I guess I am behind the times because I would never even consider renting a house or property which I own to someone I have never met.
“West Vancouver police say the owners of the house do not want to pursue criminal charges and the family of the girl who rented it have agreed to cover the cost.”
So this is settled already.

Wooooo. That’s convenient but also a recipe for trouble.
How did ceilings get involved. Wild party.
I deal in human fulfillment. I grossed over eight thousand dollars in one night.
LOL
You know that’s a damn good point!
Somebody said I sound like a democrat. It’s just the credit card thing. The girl should be held responsible, just not the parents card account. Hooe that’s a difference people can appreciate.
I see your point, but it is my contention that a 14 year old cannot enter into a binding legal contract in this instance. Would the rental company have rented it to her had they known she was 14? No. They won’t rent her a car, she isn’t allowed to vote, consent to sex, join the military, purchase a firearm.
Chucky will let her order a pizza online, that’s about it.
