He took his journeyman’s test, past it,
and started at journeyman’s wages.
At that time (as previously stated),
was .07/sq ft.
I would like to add that during the time
he and I were partnered up, there were
no workers of Hispanic descent on the
jobsites. Whites and Blacks were all I
remember seeing in 1969-1970.
My uncle, a taper, worked the same sites
we did, and would tape & texture the
homes we had finished rocking. He ended
up getting out of the business because
he couldn’t compete with the cheaper
labor.
My father also had to get out for the
same reason. That was somewhere around
1975.
