How does one “miscalibrate” a voting machine? Next time I visit my ATM can I press “deposit” and get $$ back?
How about you set the starting vote for the day at 600, after you have already put 600 votes for Lamb into the system?
“How does one miscalibrate a voting machine?”
A few years ago, there were Youtube videos showing this being done. One I won’t forget is a “hacker” proving to an election board that it’s possible and easy. Hacker did something that took only a couple of seconds. Then they ran a group of test ballots and he results did not match the actual ballots because of the hacked programming.
One of the election ladies — the Chairman, I think — cried. She believed it wasn’t possible. It is possible.
Think touch screen. Here's one way you could do it.
Each candidate has a section of the screen that is calibrated to be a certain size, and to add to that candidates count when touched. If you were to shrink the size of the sensing area for one candidate, leaving the box that is drawn the same size while making the screen surrounding that area count for the other candidate, you have miscalibrated the machine. If someone touches near the edge of their preferred candidates box it instead adds to the other candidates totals.
Here’s a video of how a voting machine can be messed with to change the outcome, “Hacking Democracy”.
