So, the fact that they were State elections makes it relevant to particular state issues, not the national races.

I don’t see it that way. State issues DO intersect with national issues. THAT, and the fact that:
1) These were GOP held seats in red states ( e.g. Oklahoma )
2) The GOP did NOT win any Democrat held seats
3) National Senate AND Congressional seats were LOST in RED districts
Tell me that this is a trend. Better not ignore this.
