That makes that comment a bit irrelevant, doesn’t it? :>)

I agree, I was surprised that you could go to jail and NOT get a dishonorable discharge!

A submarine is our home. After a while, it loses the mystique and just becomes the place we live and work and then it tries to kill us. Everyone takes some pictures. I have a half roll of photos from the engine room taken in 1987. I glad he got a pardon.

I understand the secrecy around the reactor, but why classify everything else back there?

Its easier to keep track of that way. Some things can point to classified information. Example: sea water pump discharge pressure gauge could indicate operating depth. So they classify everything, just in case.

The older I get, the stupider I feel.

Somehow that doesn’t make me feel so bad.

Didn’t think of that. :)

As a surface sonar tech, I was invited to ride the Finback for a week in 1970. They let me go sit on the stack and go active until we left Chesapeake Bay. “One ping only” NOT.

This is wonderful. He must have been so frustrated seeing what others get away with and how the book was thrown at him.

You do realize that Hillary will only stay in jail as long as we have a Republican President, right?

Seven years at a minimum. Maybe a lot more. Let the wheels of justice turn.

Commute the sentence??? He has already served the sentence. Trump did the right thing. Two people should not be held to two different standards. It really is that simple.

Oh, brother. How wonderful of you. Don't you think that Hillary and her supporters already don't care what she has done and dismissive of any suggestion that she was wrong? You know those people? No, you don't. You don't know them at all. They have already been there and they don't think anything she has done is a big deal, much less illegal and I am going all the way back to the cattle futures scandal.

You are incredibly naïve. No, you are massively naïve.

He effectively used this during the campaign, to compare the justice received by the sailor vs. Hillary. This just didn't pop in his head.

It has long been expected Trump would pardon this guy, especially since the White House asked him to apply for a pardon last year, when the normal pardon process doesn't start, at the earliest, 5 years after the prison term has been served.

Trump went against the 5 year protocol and was criticized, of course, for doing it his way.

I wish he had just commuted the sentence. Taking the pics was a violation, and a violation is a violation.

I like God's version of things - we all committed violations that would have resulted in eternal damnation and when we came to Him, heart in hand, He not only commuted our sentences but decided He would no longer recognize our violations.....

Is following illegal orders correct?

The corrupt system allowed a "flawed" individual to assume power. Is one who calls out that the emperor has no clothes a criminal. That is the question.

Thank god military is apolitical otherwise this would be a very scary place to live

There was nothing illegal about the orders Lakin received to deploy to Afghanistan, something anyone who has ever served understood clearly.

Mark this post. President Trump WILL NEVER pardon that coward.

Having worked order of battle stuff long, long ago and seeing the location of an enemy being figured out by an out of place bumper number, I think everything bit of info is crucial, and that classified info at any level is even more crucial.

JMHO.
