The Resurrection of Jeff Sessions
PJmedia ^ | March 7, 2018 | Roger L. Simon

A case in point, although it is not yet certain, seems to be Jeff Sessions, who has been in Donald Trump's crosshairs since the attorney general recused himself from the Russia investigation.

Sessions made news this week by authorizing the Department of Justice to sue the state of California for preempting federal immigration laws.  Today he delivered some strong words to a convention of the state's Peace Officers Association:

I understand that we have a wide variety of political opinions out there on immigration. But the law is in the books and its purpose is clear.

There is no nullification. There is no secession. Federal law is "the supreme law of the land." I would invite any doubters to Gettysburg, and to the graves of John C. Calhoun and Abraham Lincoln.

A refusal to apprehend and deport those, especially the criminal element, effectively rejects all immigration law and creates an open borders system. Open borders is a radical, irrational idea that cannot be accepted.

The United States of America is not "an idea;" it is a secular nation-state with a Constitution, laws, and borders, all of which are designed to protect our nation's interests. Surely, we should be able to agree on this much.

Well, no.  Especially if your name is Edmund G. Brown Jr., aka Jerry Brown, the governor of California who reacted in the highest dudgeon, calling Sessions' remarks a declaration of war on California.

Brown would have done better to declare war himself on the homeless epidemic turning his state's largest cities into new versions of Calcutta with people defecating in the streets and littering the freeway underpasses with syringes. (Apologies to the citizens of Calcutta -- it's probably not nearly as bad).  Even the slavishly liberal L.A. Times has labeled Los Angeles' homeless crisis a "national disgrace." People are leaving California  for a reason.

But never mind. The reaction of Brown, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, the execrable Oakland mayor (lucky she didn't get people killed), etc. is predictable. Meanwhile, however, some on the right were still criticizing Sessions. They intimated he was making this stand on immigration, justified as it was, to distract from his failure in dealing with the crisis within the FBI and other intelligence agencies, the distressing misuse of the FISA court to enable the illegal surveillance of American citizens and probably of the president himself. This was a crisis beyond even immigration. (Excuse me, Ann Coulter.)

I have been hearing discreet rumors for some time that Sessions was working behind the scenes on this. And then tonight the following appeared on Jake Gibson's Twitter account previewing an interview conducted with the attorney general by Fox News's Shannon Bream.

Sessions on calls for second Special Counsel: “I have appointed a person outside of Washington, many years in the Department of Justice, to look at all the allegations that the House Judiciary Committee members sent to us and we're conducting that investigation.” @ShannonBream

Gibson is Bream's producer. As The Conservative Treehouse noted, "It would appear Attorney General Jeff Sessions already has a DOJ prosecutor looking into the issues uncovered by the House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte."

Listening to the actual interview, although he was surprisingly laudatory of Trump, Sessions was still guarded on FISA and related matters. On some level, that was unnerving. Most of us know the gravity of the situation and are as anxious as Trump, almost anyway, to see that something is done, that justice is served. But like it or not, in order for justice to be served, Sessions has to be circumspect now. He has no choice -- he cannot show his cards yet. Even a special counsel might be too much or too obvious. He has to do everything according to Hoyle and more. Everything has to be as buttoned down as possible, the IG report in, for accusations to stick in a situation of such national contentiousness. We will all still have to listen to Adam Schiff for a while.

But take heart. As someone has told us, " Revenge is a meal which tastes best when it is cold." The longer this takes, the better -- say to around Labor Day just as voters are starting to focus on the midterm elections. Until then, pazienza. If I am wrong about Sessions, if I or we misjudge him, there will be time to excoriate him later.

UPDATE: And speaking of "best tasted cold," look who just released the long suppressed Fast and Furious documents. Hint: it wasn't Eric Holder.

Oops. Failed to post the first paragraph of the article. It reads as follows:

It's hard for many of us always to know who our friends really are. The president of the United States appears to have more difficulty with this than most (cf. Paul Manafort). He also may be too quick to dismiss or turn on those who may ultimately be his truest friends.

Reports of his brain death might be slightly exaggerated. But, he did give a good talk.

With friends like Sessions, who needs enemies?

I fail to see any of the Obama/Clinton cabal of criminals or any of their Deep State operatives (e.g., Comey & friends) shaking in their boots. When I see said shaking, then I’ll believe Sessions is doing anything more than Rubinstein is allowing him to do.

My post is not referring to Sessions. This is the fake news: “president of the United States appears to have more difficulty with this than most (cf. Paul Manafort). He also may be too quick to dismiss or turn on”

Sessions on calls for second Special Counsel: “I have appointed a person outside of Washington, many years in the Department of Justice, to look at all the allegations that the House Judiciary Committee members sent to us and we're conducting that investigation.”

If true, and if it has teeth, then it will be the left very soon crying for a special prosecutor and saying that the DoJ can't investigate itself.

I’ve refrained from either condemning or defending Sessions for months now, and will probably do the same for a time longer until there is a clearer picture of what he is, or is not doing.

But if the enormous question of past corruption and current efforts to damage the president didn’t exist, I think we’d have to say he’s doing an excellent job with immigration enforcement and other areas.

In an ethical legal environment, Sessions should have recused himself from any investigation into a campaign he had been a part of. But DC with the Dims is no ethical legal environment. If we’d ended up with the right DAG, his recusal would not have mattered, but we ended up with Rosenstein who panicked and appointed a SC after only a few days of pressure from the left.

On a recent show, Laura Ingraham had a guest who stated flatly, with no qualifiers, that Reince Priebus was responsible for bringing Rosenstein into consideration for the DAG position. However he got there, that mistake is what unleashed Mueller and all the distractions and dangers that involves.

Still reserving judgment on Sessions, but within a very few months, we need to start seeing some real evidence that he is doing the job that needs to be done related to past corruption in the DOJ and the FBI, and all related matters.

Sessions is the swamp. Flush this turd. The reason he will never prosecute Clintons is because they own this POS.

If nothing else, President Trump understands the value of taking the long view. He also understands timing is important.

The left can into this fight holding almost all the cards, as well as rigging the system. The DOJ, FBI, the Democrats as well as some Republicans) were staging a slow coup d’tat.

You also have to consider the media (both news and entertainment) were attempting to demonize the President (to make it easier to remove him from office when the fake investigation “found” evidence of “high crimes and misdemeanors”

Now a little over a year later, the truth is coming out about the corruption in our government, and Muller’s investigation is fast running out of steam.

California’s open door policies are not only against the law but they are getting American’s killed. Besides the big cities where the liberals have a lock, what does the average American think of the invaders from the South? The citizens of America support President Trump in this fight.

President Trump is not a stupid man. Nor does he lack courage. So why keep Session (and why openly criticize him?

I suspect like a lot of things he does, it is a head fake. He is sandbagging the left keeping Session out of the cross hairs of the anti-trumpers and the media. Meanwhile Session is working behind the scene preparing for war against the left

Why now? Off year elections are just a few months away. I think the (left’s) plan was to keep the investigation going so they could drop bombshells just before the election helping the Democrats win the House and Senate (and then impeach the President). This week may just be the opening salvo against the left. It will not be a shock and awe, but more guerilla type warfare until near the election and then the arrest and perp walks will begin (or so I can dream )

Sessions = MAGAD - Making America Great Again for Democrats

1. Protect all criminals at DoJ/FBI/Clinton machine.
2. Energize the Democrat base
3. Have Trump indicted

He has accomplished 1 and 2, No. 3 timed for the midterms

One and done Trump only has himself to blame.

Discalimer:
You’ll find no posts by Fireone doubting AG Sessions actions. There’s a reason for that.

I’m withholding judgment until he appoints a Special Counsel
and more importantly, who if anyone gets the nod.

Will he name a pitbull or a patsy?

I’m feeling more optimistic today. Willing to wait and see how this plays out a little longer before I write the guy off. I would feel bad were I to jump on the hate Sessions bandwagon (or stay there rather) when all along he was on our team.
