I’m not a lawyer, but I think you are correct. The court decision I mentioned forbids the federal government from drafting state officials to enforce federal laws. IOW, the federal government can’t make state law enforcement enforce immigration laws; however, state officials can’t interfere with federal officials enforcing immigration law. The court recognized state officials like sheriffs as sovereigns.

My reading is that federal officials can go about the business of enforcing federal law, while state officials are not required to help federal officials carry out the enforcement of federal law.

So an illegal who committed a crime doesn’t have to be reported but a State/local politician tipping off illegals to an ICE raid is indeed obstruction?
