And a lot of them are awesome people, and smart, and add a lot, and even the super poor ones, I think a lot of them are really great people.

How much of that is an attempt to preemptively prevent them typical anecdotal "evidence" the left uses? If you say there are many millions of immigrants, both legals and illegals, producing far less than they consume, thus making the country poorer by their presence, the left will name a few who have become rich to "disprove" your point. It looks like Tucker is admitting that there are some who are successful and should be welcomed in a merit based system, but that doesn't change the effect of the immigration tsunami we have.

I don't quite see what you complaint is, if that's a complaint.

Mr. Carlson is preemptively taking the wind out of the sails of any Leftists who might have otherwise accused him of racism, Islamophobia, "throwing everyone into the same pot," or forgetting to pay the fines for overdue library books. You correctly point out that some Leftists would have probably tried to "roil the waters" by changing the discussion to one about the few - really rare - exceptionally successful "immigrants." Mr. Carlson's tactic effectively prevented that. Notice, though, that Mr. Carlson cleverly did not specify how many "immigrants" are "awesome people," because doing so would have been playing into the hands of the anti-borders crowd.

You may have noticed that one of Mr. Carlson's frequent ploys (I say that admiringly) in numerous different debates (about gun-control, immigration, global warming, etc.) is "Well, what would be the 'right' number?" Because regardless of the number the Leftists cite, no number makes any sense without controls (i.e., vetting, walls, etc.).

Regards,
