Scott’s move is purely political. He’s running for the Senate against Bill Nelson, and Broward is one of the mother lodes for Democrat votes in the state. Keeping Israel around (and making him a campaign issue) will tamp down Democrat enthusiasm and energize Republican voters. As I recall, Broward went 2:1 for Hillary in 2016; with Israel as an albatross, Scott and the GOP are hoping to cut those margins and send Bill Nelson packing.
This much I know: the Dims always circle the wagons for one of their own until the polls start showing them as a drag on the ticket. When Israel suddenly resigns, you’ll know the first big wave of negative polling data has arrived.
