There are certain Holocaust terms which are worth exploring like “Kapo”, “Judenrat” and “Sonderkommando” as shameful as they may be.
“Kapos” helped concentration camp administration, “Judenrat” helped organize deportation to death camps from ghettos and transit camps, “Sonderkommando” went into the gas chambers and handled the corpses for the crematorium etc. etc.
Any discussions about the Holocaust become very emotionally very quickly because those in the positions you describe had the best chance of survival - and carry enormous guilt over their survival. When you read first-hand accounts, stories describe prisoners seizing food from older or weak prisoners (as they were all starving); those who could take the most often lasted the longest - and they carry that with them.
