Exactly. In any active crime scene the first job is to secure the perimeter and then wait for proper backup. People are naive to think a cop is going to slap on his bullet proof vest, and enter a scene where there is an active shooter.

For better or worse, these appear to relate to the policies of the department he works for. Which need to be followed. I've noted previously I don't believe the Sheriff, and the actions of the other deputies, sheltering, indicate either these aren't the policies or he's an awful leader, unable to communicate policy

That's exactly what we're examining Sheriff Israel said, noting that active shooter protocols require confronting suspects as quickly as possible. "You don't wait for SWAT, you get in and you push toward the shooter"

Asked what Mr Peterson should have done, Sheriff Israel said: "Went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer." Sheriff Israel said Mr Peterson had not given a reason for why he did not go into the building where the shooter was. It is unclear if he will face charges.

Exactly. Cops are civil service employees who collect revenue and take reports. They are not heroes and people need to stop thinking they are.
