I will be strongly pushing Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health. Raise age to 21 and end sale of Bump Stocks! Congress is in a mood to finally do something on this issue - I hope!

Posting on FR is soon to become evidence of a mental health issue. Dangerous subversive rebel conservatives...no guns for you!
This was announced, or in writing? Cause later today he said he would work closely with NRA. No way someone cannot buy a firearm for protection until 21. There are 18 year olds with families, and in our military, and the small matter of the voting and drinking age.
None of this would change the outcome of attack. Nor would it have changed the Sandy Hook clearly looney son of a woman who took him to rifle ranges and he took the gun out her cabinet, killed her and then went to the school.
Already getting pushback from lib mayors/heads of school systems who, even when provided with funding for training and support of armed teachers (preferably veterans) being offered-— are saying “no more guns in schools”. Idiotic, and they want no-one to have firearms, except “their” people. Just as in any communist takeover, at the mercy of military and police.
So is Trump going to push the voting age to age 21?
How about serving in the military to age 21?
Setting a precedent that we ban whatever just was used is bad bad bad. It will lead to a full ban before long. We need to slow down and deal with this rationally and not emotionally. The NRA has a strong position against 2 and 3. 1 is up for interpretation as far as what a comprehensive background check it. Reform to that is a no brainer. Update it with new technology.
The issue here was fed law enforcement. Nothing more. Building a system to monitor and respond to crazy nute like this Cruz guy has to work effectively. Its the person. Not the gun. This guy should have been stopped 10 times over.
so you need to be 21 to go hunting ??
So then Trump has to surrender his permit since the left considers him mentally ill. My point is that mental health as a criterion is a real slippery thing because it is so subjective, even in terms of professional diagnoses. Unless there had been an involuntary commitment or definite threats (which are criminal, not so much a matter of mental health), he should stay clear of this area. Otherwise, around 40% of Americans just lost their 2A rights (counting all the “mental heath” RXs and counselling/therapy).
Get REAL!!! 18 year olds do NOT need this UNLESS they go into the MILITARY!!! SellOUT my ASS! ADULT!
Mind you, this only applies to firearms purchase, and there's no way to legislate against firearms theft, which is already illegal. But it seems painfully apparent that the current system has failed through lack of compliance on the part of the same people who now want additional regulations. The truth is that the gun prohibitionists don't actually want the current system to work even if it saves lives. They're after power.
As usual Trump is going to listen to all sides, he’s going to offer all sides some conciliatory rhetoric to placate their emotions, then he’s going to think about it for a while and then he will send his policy recommendations to the House and Senate.
We all know what happens to things when they go to the House and Senate.
Rumor is the NRA will announce support & plans tomorrow, expecting outrage from our side.
I am fine with background checks.................always
They're gone. So all we have to do is just ban ban ban.
This has huge privacy (4A) implications. It’s denying rights without adjudication (due process), based on what is supposed to be patient-doctor privileged information. There is nothing indicating what illnesses rise to the level of justifying rights denial. This amounts to testifying against self (5A): go for help, lose rights; many will remain untreated to avoid new consequences. And so on.
SCOTUS will strike it down, in a very ugly case.
Perhaps an exemption can added for those in the military. Short of that, I’m for what Trump proposes. Let’s face it, most teens today are smartphone addicts and moral nihilists.
And what happened to repealing Obama care, building the wall, the hearing protection act, concealed carry reciprocity? Sorry, I realize that much of the blame falls on congress but still too many failures to deliver and now this.
People tend to forget the NRA was started for civilian marksmanship, first. Nothing to do with 2nd Amendment rights. In fact members sign an affidavit (or did) that they would never intend or advocate the violent overthrow of the US government.
How ironic that libs— who would and DO advocate this, are trying to force reduction and removal of one of the Rights outlined in the Bill of Rights. 2nd Amendment written by Madison. People don’t get it.
He’s also a New Yorker, so “Fly over country” is a very real thing to remember when thinking of him and his.
But I have to wonder: Will Congress just about LOSE THEIR MINDS that they are supporting something coming from him ? Remember, just a week ago they were all “RESIST” and refusing to pass anything that came from him. Now they’ll be “forced” to either agree with him, or fight him.
I don’t think that our rights are the place to play such a game, but its still something to think about. It’s going to chap their @$$es so bad to vote yay.
I do believe the age of 21 is only for that one particular gun.
