CNN host Brooke Baldwin appeared visibly angry during her show on Tuesday after the White House press briefing was delayed multiple times, saying that the White House "cannot avoid" the media.
"A memo to the White House: you cannot avoid us; stop trying to dodge us," Baldwin said to the camera. "This briefing needs to begin. It was supposed to begin an hour and fifteen minutes ago, and then it was supposed to begin twenty-five minutes ago. There's a lot to talk about and we need to see [White House press secretary] Sarah Sanders behind that podium."
Baldwin went on to say that it is "entirely fair" to "be tough" on the White House because there were many questions that needed to be answered before it held the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor awards ceremony later in the hour.
CNN senior White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny echoed that there were too many questions that the White House needed to answer in the limited time allotted for the briefing. He noted that it had been exactly one week since the last White House press briefing and said that the White House has delayed its press briefings repeatedly.
"Gloria, what's this about?" Baldwin asked CNN chief political analyst Gloria Borger.
Borger also said many questions needed to be answered and it is clear White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did not want to answer them.
"Maybe there's a possibility that they're actually going to say something about guns, for example," Borger said. "Maybe the president having spoken with people like Sen. [John] Cornyn [R., Texas], etc. over the weekend that maybe actually the White House is going to say, Look, this is where we want to go on background checks or bump stocks,' and maybe that would be one thing you could consider."
"I think that it behooves the White House to stand there and answer these questions and not have an abbreviated 10-minute session," Borger added.
Q Yes, thank you. Does the President now acknowledge what the Special Counsel indictments made clear, which is that Russians not only tried to meddle, but interfere and influence the 2016 election? That "new important question" has been asked and answered for over a year already. The press harped on it for a few more. Then switch to ..
Q Yeah, I'll pick up. First, a clarification from some of the President's tweets over the weekend. The President doesn't really think that the FBI failed to stop the Parkland shooter because it was too involved with the Russia investigation, does he?LOL. Took five minutes to explain to the geniuses in the press that this was a dig at the FBI for two unrelated things; and the press AGAIN went off into "Russia."
Then a few questions about confidence in FBI Director Wray, then to the Parkland shooting and speculating on Trump's gun control position in light of that. Then ...
Q Thanks a lot, Sarah. In the aftermath of the indictment, which was handed down by the Special Counsel Bob Mueller's office on Friday, the President tweeted quite a bit and tweeted quite a bit over the weekend. He was critical of the FBI; he was critical of Democrats; critical of the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff; even critical of his predecessor.Again! The rest of the Feb 20, 2018 presser (<- link) was on gun control issues. But he was not critical of Russia.
As if CNN isn't skilled at filling time with repetetive garbage, it complains it lacks new material to misrepresent.
I think they should take the cameras OUT of the briefing.
It’s nothing but an opportunity for the bottom feeders to grandstand.
Sanders should come out and say....as soon as Baldwin leaves the presser will begin....
No, dont do that. The reporters would lie about everything that went on there.
The cameras are good. They show the idiot asking the question, and we get to see the group of propagandists show their faces (massive tells going on) as questions are asked.
You are so right. Just a bunch of College sophomores trying to make a name for themselves by being obnoxious, and the most obnoxious of them rates a job at CNN, like anyone with a real brain would want that.
Apparently they can.
Suck it, media. :)
Shut up, Brooke.
The people in the Media DO UNDERSTAND that they are despised and mocked, right?
“I think they should take the cameras OUT of the briefing.”
No. It’s too much fun watching Sarah rip them new ones every day.
Baldwin went on to say that it is “entirely fair” to “be tough” on the White House
...
It’s only fair if you’re just as “tough” with the Democrats.
I was just about to post we didn’t hear any caterwauling from the press when Hussein was late for every appearance.
I wonder if she would have used such harsh language had Obama delayed a press briefing. Or Hillary?
Avoiding and ignoring are two different things. When the FAKE NEWS media decides to report the news instead of creating the news, perhaps the WH will pay more attention to them.
She should show up to her next on time and not say anything for 20 minutes.
good point, never happen
I watched that briefing yesterday, as much as I could stand. All of the questions were meaningless twitdom. There was not one single legitimate question. Not one.
Unless something has changed, the media has access to white house press staff throughout the day to get questions answered. And they can be put in touch with other WH officials if the press staff doesn’t have answers.
This “outrage” is about not being able to ask questions on camera to someone who is probably not in the best position to answer the question and will hand off legitimate questions to someone who can get the details. But it’s harder to “score points” (or “make yourself look foolish” depending on the viewer) if there’s no camera.
CNNs Brooke Baldwin Angered at White House Briefing Delay: You Cannot Avoid Us
Actually they can. As do most of we the people! I would ask who you are but then I would have to care about what you say!
