Outgoing Republicans Say GOP Has Changed [Flake, Dent, Royce, Ros-Lehtinen]

A group of Republicans who have decided not to run for re-election told CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday that the Republican Party has changed, and not for the better.

Reps. Ed Royce (R-Calif.), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), and Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) complained about the GOP’s narrowing focus and the perception that the Republicans must pledge loyalty to the president instead of to GOP principles. […]

Royce said he always considered the Republican Party to be “a big tent party” with room “for a lot of different viewpoints.” He said part of the answer is for the party to look at “what we can do to change the fact that no longer do we really have the types of friendships across the aisle that we once had.”

When asked whether “the tent is as big as it used to be,” Dent said, “No, I don’t, actually. I think what’s happening in Congress is the political center is collapsing, but that’s not true across the country. What I found is that we have become enormously polarized here in Congress, and that polarization has led to a paralysis. I mean the very simple, basic tasks of governing, just keeping the government open.”

Ros-Lehtinen complained that “very few women” are running for office on the Republican ticket. “Far greater numbers of women are identifying themselves as being in the Democratic Party. Minorities that have always been traditionally a group that we should really be going after.” …

I don’t even have to ‘look it up’ and will cite you 3 very quick races where the RNC abandoned a Woman in DE, CT and UT all in the same breath and ALL were ‘beaten by a WHITE GUY, one a complete loser (CT)

And I think there may have been a couple other races where the Rs were abandoned..VA Gov for one which begot us McAwful.

The problem with the “big tent” theory is where they stick the pole.

It’s the globalism, “free trade” and cronyism. Not really small problems. What they are saying is they are having a hard time ignoring their base.

Well, PRESIDENT Trump said he was going to Make America Great Again. Changing the GOP was part of that.
= = = = = = = = = = = = =
If nothing else he has done something that has probably NEVER been done - at least in ‘modern’ times...

He has UNITED the R & D side of the aisle and they ALL seemingly have a common goal.

LIke ‘we’ say, you know you are doing something right when BOTH sides want you gone.

I hope it has. It definitely hasn’t changed enough. These traitors to conservatism would whine if they didn’t get the payoff they were expecting because they are entitled.

The battle isn’t conservative vs liberal. That was the last war. The real battle of the 21st century American politics is globalists vs patriots.

As the Rats like to point out the ad you referenced ONLY RAN ONE TIME. But it was played on NBC, ABC, and CBS every night for weeks. Yes, this is how long this crap has been going on.

We are too busy trying to sabotage each other while the democrats are building strength. I mean, their party even rigged the primaries in 2016 and their supporters are still around. Bernie sold out his supporters for a beach house and they still think he is the greatest thing on the planet.

Look at us, we are too busy trying to fight each other. I stated before, instead of going after the RINOs, go after the democrats, more republican seats are better then democrat seats any day of the week. But instead we play stupid party games and lose ALABAMA?!?! What was the point of that?

It’s not “each other” when the RINOs are clearly of the Uniparty and merely attacking conservatives as their ideological brethren in the Democratic wing of said single party do. The RINOs are not of “us”, meaning conservatives; they are Democrats in nature. They will always attack conservatives.

Losing Alabama was a prime example of the Uniparty in action. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee (even them) turned on the candidate the people wanted. And then the Democratic machine started bringing in minorities to vote (showing their racist bent). This is the RINOs in action. They are very happy with Doug Jones.

Flake is very appropriately named. He’s a real jerk. Thank Heaven he’s leaving!

I think we need to focus on taking out democrats, not our own. If a grassroots effort takes place to knock out a guy in the primary, let it happen but we need to flip more seats not surrender them to democrats because we elect idiots in the primary that are “more conservative”

Royce is our RINO...

Not surprised at his comments. He has pretty much allowed my State to go to hell in a hand basket...handing it over to illegals and crazy Dems.

Quitters and losers, on their way out, complain that there are now too many fighters and winners, like Trump, in the party.

She is a creature of Washington. What ever she believed when she was first elected has long been replaced by Washington group think.

Who are “our own”?

The RINOs have decided that they are going to throw in with the Dems. And they did this even before I was born.

Even before any special elections, the RINOs held firm and refused to repeal Zerocare. The list goes on and on.
