Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway on Monday urged the National Rifle Association to move its upcoming annual convention elsewhere in light of last weeks mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
Mr. Caraway, who represents District 4 on the Dallas City Council, told reporters Monday that the NRA would be met with opposition if it continues with its annual meeting of members event, scheduled for May 3-6 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
There will be marches and demonstrations should they come to Dallas, Mr. Caraway said, local ABC affiliate WFAA reported.

People like him are increasingly blatant in their fleecing of the public. The immunity from tar and feathers has emboldened many to join the gravy train.
I’m disappointed in Caraway, I thought he was better than that, he ran against John Wiley Price.
He’s not mayor ... he’s mayor pro tem. A city council member - and a loudmouth. Nothing more.
One rung up the ladder is not much better than the bottom rung.
Marches and demonstrations. Sounds like a target-rich environment.
Still no one connected as members of the National Rifle Association have been involved in mass shootings. So why are they being castigated.
Ok.
I’m thankful that my relatives had foresight to avoid parts of Dallas that resemble Cleveland.
I agree.
I’ve never heard of an elected official under circumstances like this coming out and pulling a stunt like this.
He sounds like an ignorant pompous azz.
Isn’t there a way to get rid of the f’ing fool? He has got to be a huge embarrassment...
He's from an area that apparently likes the fool ... they keep voting him in.
Why the NRA would hold its annual meeting in a DemocRat city like Dallas is beyond me. I hope the NRA can find a way to secretly negotiate another location, and then leave the City of Dallas Convention Center holding the bag by notifying them too late to book the empty space the NRA will leave.
I gotta live near Dallas, but I don’t gotta like ‘em.
Dallas, like Austin, appears to be no longer a part of Texas.
So Jaz,
Ya think this dope will order his police to stand down and let the crazies go wild?
Hey, you beat me to it. What if a long parade of 2nd Amendment supporters marched en masse, protesting the GLAMORIZATION of ‘mass shooting” in newly released HIT movies?
In the movies, people actually shell out good money to watch the bodies hit the dirt. When I was a kid, the guns went off, but the audience didn’t get to see the blood and guts flying all over the place. We also knew the “deceased” would show up in another movie next week.
Don’t worry, I don’t want to come to his “Black Lives Matter” centric city anyway. I don’t need to drop into the middle of a race war. I usually go to NRA Annual Conventions, but I’ll probably skip this one. The NRA needs to focus on Trump-friendly cities.
I doubt it, my FRiend but if he does he’s a lot more ignorant than I thought.
Well, maybe we could go-opt the protestors.
Make a whole bunch of cool signs for them (with Doritos & Monsters, too), blitz them that anti-gun must include movies and video games (girls will buy that immediately), and praise them for being smartly inclusive.
Sounds like a clear threat to me.
>
Whoever isnt an NRA member should consider becoming one for all the obvious reasons.

Ummm, this ‘stalwart of inalienable Rights’ that sent out the word they were more than willing to support MORE ‘common sense gun control’ measures??
WHY would anyone want to join up again?
GOA and others have held steadfast on their 2nd A. support. THEY deserve the memberships more.
As a Dallas resident and taxpayer, I urge the NRA to ignore the loudmouth councilman Caraway.
