NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has never been shy about discussing social issues or concerns within the black community.
And during an interview with ESPN, Barkley talked about efforts he is making to improve life for some in the black community.
The comments came on the heels of opinions shared by NBA superstars LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
James said that Trump "doesn't give a f--- about the people" while Durant said, "And I feel like our team, as a country, is not run by a great coach."
Barkley also chimed in on Trump in the ESPN interview.
"I'm not a fan of the president," he said. "I don't talk bad about the president because he is the president of the United States. But I'm not a fan. I think he's divisive. I think he's very divisive."
Barkley commended another NBA Hall of Famer, David Robinson, as well as James for their efforts in the black community.
Then Barkley discussed his own ideas Friday on First Take in the interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.
"I'm working on a new initiative in Alabama - you know, Stephen A., I don't know any black plumbers, any black electricians, any black car mechanics," Barkley said. "So I'm going back to Alabama over the summer and I'm going to partner with a vocational school to get more black plumbers, electricians."

We want and deeply believe in the wisdom of smaller government.

I am not suggesting bigger government. I am not suggesting spending.
Like George Zimmerman was innocent & he supported the Ferguson grand jury's decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown
but he is so wrong on TRUMP but atleast he shows respect to TRUMP by not talking bad about the President because he is the President of the United States
Ok, first of all, how many blacks actually want to be plumbers?
Are you going to put a gun to their head and demand they become a plumber?
Barkley is a coward.
I think he deep down likes Trump, but is afraid of what “The Tribe” will say about him if he says it aloud.
You don’t get licensed as a plumber, HVAC tech, welder, or electrician just by doing it either. You’ve got to spend some time in the classroom.
Hey, Chuckles, you just did.
Doubt he knows any laborers of any color. He hangs out with millionaires, not laborers. His manager is the one who calls the plumber.
Not if the abortion movement keeps up those death rates for black babies with abortion and birth control...
What we will have are hundred million Mexicans to replace the blacks...In 15 years, dems won’t need blacks anymore..Once Mexicans and hispanics populate the bigger electoral states and dems get 270,it’s bye-bye blacks....
Whites doing the job blacks won’t.
Maybe blacks don’t want to crawl around in poo all day long. Hanging out on street corners selling crack is a lot easier.
Where’s that “That’s Racist!” kid when you need him???
Ok, first of all, how many blacks actually want to be plumbers?

You’re missing the point. There is honor in those professions. People can make a good living doing those jobs. I won’t put a gun to anyone’s head but it may help if people they look up to (like professional athletes) help steer them in a more positive direction. And that doesn’t take any of your tax money. Instead of these youths being focused on being professional football or basketball players, let’s get them focused on something more realistic — like being plumbers, welders, electricians, etc.
Wrong, there is nothing wrong with government helping to set up trade schools and/or helping students to attend. That is exactly what this country need as we are terribly short handed in the construction trades.
well thats so black racist nice of him.
He fears the tribe. Damn shame.
I feel terrible for good American realist blacks who dont want to be racist bigots in this day.
This man made millions on talent, not race.
I think Sir Charles will come back to his senses, he just steps on his tongue at times. This race baiting social climate is a disaster right now.
He could help lead it back to a better way if he chooses to.
I'm all for it. How many years have we been trying to steer black youths in a positive direction? One? Two? Fifty?
They don't want to learn because it is "acting white." Maybe if welfare (from mostly white people) ceased, they might be motivated.
Barkley used to be good friends with Rush Limbaugh back in the day, what changed?
You know why Alabama? Because it is a strong right to work state, where a workman doesn’t have to belong to a union to work.
Go to the states that require union membership, and you aren’t going to see any black plumbers or electricians. Because the unions won’t let them in.
What about Chinese plumbers? Do we need to make sure they are presented also?
As in my original post, “I’ll add that I don’t believe it should be limited to just blacks but, if these three guys were participants, I believe it would would make more of a positive difference.”

I believe it would be a good idea to add a few good moral/spiritual leaders to such a group too. They certainly don’t have to be black. It’s important to remember that so many black youths don’t have a good role model in their homes. Too many are without a father in the home.
I see nothing wrong with encouraging others. If others have good ideas, I am all for hearing it.
Can he throw in some HVAC repair guys?
