Maybe he did not like being labeled as Hispanic based on his ADOPTIVE father’s surname. There is no reason to suppose he had the same ancestry or ethnic background of his adoptive parents.

That’s what I’m thinking. Was his adoptive name Hispanic? He looks white. The name “Nikolas” is Greek.

Frankly, that teacher sounds nutso. Who cares if he didn’t want to speak Spanish and was she forcing him to? What sort of teacher “breaks” a kid?
